The Red Sox completed a trio of minor trades on Wednesday.
Zach Stewart, a right-handed pitcher who was acquired last summer from the Chicago White Sox for Kevin Youkilis and was recently designated for assignment, was shipped to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later.
Danny Valencia, a third baseman who was acquired during the 2012 campaign from Minnesota and was also recently designated for assignment, was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations.
Sandy Rosario, a right-handed pitcher who was claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins earlier in the off-season and was recently signed by the Red Sox to a minor league deal, was traded to the Oakland A’s for cash or a player to be named later.
All three players were designated for assignment by the Red Sox to create room on the 40-man roster and did not factor into the team’s 2013 Major League plans, aside from serving as depth at the Triple-A level had they remained in the Boston organization.
